Star Trek Gold Key logo (1967-1979 and beyond)

Vector recreation of the immortal Gold Key Star Trek logo, perhaps the most iconic Trek logo after TOS and maybe the TMP one. Simple enough to reproduce in Affinity Designer of course. At the bottom of this page I talk a little about the lettering used. If you like that kind of thing, check me out on Bluesky and look through my pinned Star Trek font threads!

Original cover art by George Wilson, found on the excellent Star Trek Comics website. Issue #29, March 1975. Edited to put focus on the logo, as ultimately that is what I'm presenting.

I attempted to find the exact photos used for Spock and Kirk, but only found a close match for the Kirk one. He's a little more serious in the original!

References used. I and many others have tried to find the name of the original logo designer, with no luck. Perhaps lost to time by now!

While the lettering used for the logo of the Gold Key Star Trek comics was almost certainly bespoke, interlocking lettering had been very popular in America for a while. The logo bears a strong resemblance to SAFARI and CASUAL INTERLOCK in particular.

TREK DISRUPTOR BLAST by Steve Ferrera is a good free font based on the Gold Key lettering (although technically he says it was based on the BBC Annual, FWIW). Available on dafont and all the usual places.

The logo was redrawn several times over the years, so as usual my recreation is a blend of my favourite bits from all the ones I used as reference.
