'Far Beyond The Stars' Deep Space Nine & Rocketship Defiant

A retrofuturistic 1950s version of Deep Space Nine as seen in the episode 'Far Beyond the Stars', plus my own take on a Rocketship Defiant to go with it. I still consider this to be a work in progress, but I'm putting it aside for now.

I started out planning to recreate the John Eaves blue pencil sketch, but lost interested in that. Then I couldn't decide if I wanted to make a 1950s style DS9 opening titles sequence (a lot of work!) or a 50's pulp sci-fi magazine cover (also a lot of work to replicate a painterly style). In the end I didn't achieve any of those and decided to make something fairly presentable move on to something else. But I expect I'll return to this later.

It's reeeal!

The DS9 is mostly faithful to the original art (below) but the rocketship Defiant is purely my own.

I had always thought that this was a John Eaves design, but in fact James Van Over created the 3D version first and Eaves drew the art that was used as a prop in the episode.

Bonus treat: I couldn't find a really nice image of the John Eaves art online, so I scanned it from his art book.
